Big game in Division one of the Spartan South Midlands League where Wellingborough Whitworth faced off against Shefford Town & Campton. Sheffford have been on a fantastic winning run and had top scorer in the division Jonathan McNamara on their side. Whitworth however had former Zimbabwe international Milton Ncube starting as well.
The game kicked off and it was end to end and it started to kick off with an early yellow card. Shefford took the lead through Henry Snee who after some nice work from Ashley Kersey who got it to Henry Snee who got past a defender and smashed into the side netting. It didn't take long for Whitworth to equalise after lots of pressure but they appeared very wasteful in front of goal, Kobi Bivens got the ball in the net at the far post following a scramble to level things up. Neither managers were happy at half time due to the refereeing decisions in the game. Shefford came back out firing and Jonathan McNamara won a penalty instantly. Henry Snee took and converted despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it. About 15 minutes later Jonathan McNamara won another penalty slightly dodgier this time. Henry Snee scored again to seal a hat-trick. Whitworth pulled one back through substitute Ryan Lovell who scored a header with 20 minutes to go to make the game tastier. To make matters worse Sam Day of Shefford was sent off for an off ball kick on a Whitworth player pointed put by the linesman and the referee decided to send him off. Shefford sealed the 3 points through 17-year-old Scott Metcalfe who smashed into the top corner after dribbling past the defender to almost confirm 3 points for Shefford. It was soon 5 when Jonathan McNamara who couldn't resist not getting in on the action when his spirited run down the left wing and bending it into the top right corner.
Shefford move up top 6th place going ahead of Whitworth who fall to 8th place. This game had everything!
