A huge day at the Eyrie as Bedford host AFC Dunstable. A win today for Bedford and if Berkhamsted drop points could see Bedford win the league and gain promotion. There was a big attendance all ready to hopefully see the eagles clinch the league title.
It was a strong start from the home side who looked confident from the off and must have felt confident that they will win the league. The first ten minutes was dominated by Bedford and soon they were rewarded. Connor Tomlinson pressured the defender in the air and Will Summerfield won the ball. He crossed it to Connor Tomlinson who tried a backheel but the rebound fell back to him and he struck into an empty net. They kept pushing and pushing the defence for that goal and it came after some great perseverance. It was a very sunny day but the heat didn't stop Bedford. Rene Howe came close before half time but he didn't quite get to it. At half time, Bedford Town lead 1-0.
The second half was better for AFC Dunstable as they started piling on the pressure. Bedford dealt with this and the worst that came was the occasional corner. Bedford really adapted well to the second half and were still showing their attacking flare. Bedford did get a second and it was Connor Tomlinson who got a brace. He did a trademark touch and finish in the box and scored the goal that could seal the game for Bedford and maybe even the league. Bedford held out and won the game 2-0.
News arrived from Berkhamsted that they had lost 2-3 agaisnt Harlow Town and this kick-started the celebrations. A fantastic season for Bedford who thoroughly deserved their promotion and league title. Now may the celebrations begin and all eyes on next season in Step 3.
