With Wrexham needing to cement a play-off spot and Chesterfield needing to keep close to Stockport this was a massive game in the Technique Stadium. Wrexham were 7th prior to the game just previously scraping past Wealdstone in London. Chesterfield were 2nd and coming off the back of a 2-3 loss to Solihull Moors.
It was a cagey affair at the start. They both began playing like they were aware of the stakes of the game for both sides. Chesterfield had a few chances and they couldn't put any away. They started playing well and missed a few sitters. The Chesterfield fans felt as if they had Kabongo Tshimanga on the pitch he would of put them away. It finished 0-0 at half time. Wrexham took the lead after a strong start to the second half and Ollie Palmer scored the goal after a corner was whipped in and he headed in from short distance. Chesterfield should have scored again but it wasn't to be. No more than a minute after a great Chesterfield chance Wrexham doubled their advantage and it was Ollie Palmer who scored another scrappy goal but Chesterfield were protesting claiming it shouldn't of counted due to offside following a goal line scramble. It finished 0-2 with a massive win for Wrexham.
Chesterfield stay in 2nd but are now 6 points behind of Stockport and now they can't afford to lose many more. Wrexham move up to 5th jumping ahead of Halifax Town and Bromley. Now only 3 points separate the two sides as they both remain in the play-off spots.
